Meditation helps to calm the mind, balance the body, and empower oneself. Meditation can also help to lower stress, and blood pressure, sleep well and even be happier. Many people claim that they cannot relax enough to meditate, but there are many different kinds of meditation. In this course several meditation and relaxation techniques will be explored from a western point of view. There will be discussions and teachings followed by opportunities to practice in each class. After that some meditations will be “assigned for homework”. We will explore the most immediate benefits of meditation to help us each day.

About the Instructor:

Fred Coleman, who is 52 years of age, is a middle school special education teacher who has practiced meditation for 30 years. His education is from CSU Long Beach in Fine Art. When he was young he began working with transcendental meditation and since that time he has practiced other forms. These other forms consisted of object contemplation, kundalini yoga and meditation, Jungian dreamwork, and shamanism.
